Thank you for the critic. I always knew the opera quite well - and loved those comparisons you use to explain the story. Although I still couldn't hear the complete performance, I've already been able to hear some parts of the telecast in YouTube. Now, I'm informed. In Lisbon, Portugal, it just wasn't organized. There was no Met Live. If you go to Met's website and search for buy tickets, Portugal doesn't appear at all. If you know why, I would love reply to duque.magalhaes@hotmail.com

Same problems here in Michigan, and not the first time, I might add. Theater mgmt was in touch with NYC immediately and was told that the problem was in the transmission, which I believe because the video coming attractions were at full sound. Possible a stage wireless microphone pickup problem, as the hall sound still came through but the hand-held microphones during the backstage interviews were totally inaudible.

I saw the performance in a theatre in Newmarket Ontario Canada and we had problems with both the sound (either no sound or intermittent sound) and the picture. The first act came through in sepia tones so we never got to appreciate the true colours of the set and costumes.

It truly was a disappointment from a technical point of view. Fortunately, as we all filed out of the theatre after the performance, we were given a coupon for free admission to the next HD broadcast. That helped to soften the blow.

We experienced the same unfortunate technical problems in the Showcase Cinema in Warwick, RI where we attended La Rondine. What a disappointment to miss so much of the opera, and especially the interviews with Alagna and Gheorghiu....We absolutely love the opportunity to experience these Met operas live. (Thanks for your article to let us know that we weren't the only ones who experienced the problem.)
