Last week on May 8, the Israel Philharmonic and Munich Philharmonic performed a concert on the 80th anniversary of “Liberation Day.” In 1945, the day marked the unconditional surrender of Germany and the official end of World War II in Europe.

Israel Philharmonic Music Director Lahav Shani led the performance of works by Tzvi Avni and Gustav Mahler. The program began with Avni’s Prayer and concludes with Mahler’s Symphony No. 6.

Avni’s music is new to me. Its style is reminiscent of that of Shostakovitch. The 97 year old composer attended the concert conducted by Israel Philharmonic Music Director Lahav Shani.

The performance can be streamed until June 7th. THE ISRAEL PHILHARMONIC IN CONCERT WITH THE MUNICH PHILHARMONIC
